Last updated: April 2026
Summary
Screenshot → Spec does not collect, store, or transmit any of your data. Everything happens locally in your browser.
What we don't collect
- No personal information
- No screenshots (they exist only in your browser's memory)
- No generated specs (they are pushed to your own Jira/Linear and then discarded)
- No analytics, telemetry, or tracking
- No cookies
API keys
Your API keys for OpenAI, Jira, and Linear are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. They are never sent to us or any third party. They are used exclusively to make direct API calls from your browser to the respective services (OpenAI, Atlassian, Linear).
Screenshots
Screenshots are captured using the Chrome captureVisibleTab API and exist only in your browser's local memory. They are sent directly from your browser to the OpenAI API for analysis (using your own API key) and are cleared from local storage after an issue is successfully created.
Data flow
All data flows directly between your browser and the APIs you configure:
- Your browser → OpenAI (screenshot analysis, using your key)
- Your browser → Jira/Linear (issue creation, using your credentials)
There is no intermediate server. We never see or handle your data.
Permissions
The extension requests two Chrome permissions:
activeTab— to capture a screenshot of the current tab when you click the capture buttonstorage— to save your settings (API keys) locally in your browser
No backend
This extension has no backend server, no database, and no cloud infrastructure. It is a fully client-side Chrome extension.
