Diff Anything is a Chrome browser extension developed by Hexis Habit Technologies Inc. This Privacy Policy explains how the extension handles information.

1. Overview

Diff Anything is a local-only comparison tool. It allows users to highlight text on web pages and compare two saved selections in a visual diff viewer.

Diff Anything does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal information.

2. Data Collection

Diff Anything does not collect any personal data.

The extension:

  • Does not send data to external servers
  • Does not use analytics
  • Does not use tracking technologies
  • Does not use cookies
  • Does not transmit browsing history
  • Does not monitor user activity beyond explicit user selection

All selected text remains stored locally in the user's browser.

3. Local Storage

Diff Anything uses chrome.storage.local to store:

  • Text saved to "Diff A"
  • Text saved to "Diff B"
  • Timestamp metadata
  • Source URL (hostname only for display purposes)

This data:

  • Is stored locally on the user's device
  • Is not transmitted externally
  • Can be cleared at any time by the user by removing the extension

4. Permissions

Diff Anything uses the following Chrome permissions:

  • storage – to store Diff A and Diff B locally
  • contextMenus – to enable right-click "Save selection" options
  • activeTab – to access the currently active tab when the user triggers a save
  • scripting – to capture the user's highlighted text on demand
  • host_permissions (<all_urls>) – required to access selected text on any webpage when the user explicitly chooses "Save selection"

The extension only accesses page content when the user actively selects text and chooses the save action.

5. Data Sharing

Diff Anything does not:

  • Sell data
  • Share data
  • Transfer data
  • Store data remotely
  • Process data on external servers

All functionality runs entirely within the browser.

6. Security

Because Diff Anything does not transmit or store data externally, all selected content remains confined to the user's local browser environment.

7. Changes to This Policy

If changes are made to this policy, the updated version will be published at this URL with a revised effective date.
